KC
The railroad line ran straight through his hometown
It's been a minute since he made his way back around
You'd think with 30 years he'd learn something
Could have fooled me cause it still looks like he's runnin'
He navigates each argument with words well chosen
The sound of his own voice the elemental poison
You'd think the view from so high up is worth somethin'
Turns out what it got him's just what keeps him haunted
Surrounded by his best friends but it feels like he's a stranger
It's too much now so best face it later
The weight of this old world's been heavy on his mind
So he fills his lungs with what makes him feel safest at the time
You'd think he'd want to take this all more easy
But the cynic's mind is just too tangled up when it's not sleeping
Living in his head and feelin' like a stranger
It's too much now so best face it later
Now lately
A shell of who he was once floats through each long day
It spends the hours trying to think just what not to say
Without his weapon of choice
It's lookin' like he's lost more than his voice
I hope he finds it cause this time's been gettin' stranger
Maybe he just needs to remain a spectator
To face it now might just be too damn complicated
Yea, it's too much now. So best face it later

Beside You

Everything that you're saying sounds like heartburn
It's pain in the back of your throat
A feeling that stays while the heart learns
How to deal with being alone
This last year has been rough
And the words aren't enough
But there's one thing I'm learning that's true
It all feels like a test, besides you
When the day feels like going through the motions
And the noise is too loud to think clear
Just remember that nothing lasts, darling
Won't be long till there's nothing to hear
The way that we see it, the time we spend being
It's just one angle we get to view
I'll lay it all down to rest, beside you
If one morning you wake to a memory
Of my short time allowed to be seen
I'll be waiting around for you softly
But until then you're gonna be free
It's a hand that was dealt
What it meant to be felt
But when it ends it will always be true
I'm nowhere unless I'm beside you

Back Around

J sold out his brother for a million-dollar bill
He tried to fold his heart inside but he felt that longing still
So I asked him why and he shut his eyes; chewed his tongue against its will
I guess he's too far gone to circle back around
Now he broadcasts from a basement, he's got nowhere else to be
'Cause his bills are paid by someone else, doesn't need the dirt on both his knees
If he ever finds the answer, or a better way to be
He'll be too far gone, to turn it back around
But the world keeps spinning
For the time being
And it feels like soon enough there ain't gonna be too much left to sell
So I close my eyes and look inside I know when my time comes
It'll be a silent farewell
T sold out his conscience for a warmer bed at night
He tried to dig his soul so deep; down where no one else could find
Seems he left it there, for so long now that lonesome friend of mine
I guess it's too far gone to dig it from the ground
But the world keeps spinning
For the time being
It feels like soon enough there ain't gonna be too much left to sell
So I close my eyes and look inside I know when my time comes
It'll be a silent farewell
Yea I close my eyes and look inside 'cause I know when my time comes
It'll be a silent farewell

Borrowed Time

You've shown me that you got my back, but listen
It never really works out that the right one wins
You got cut a little slack before you lose it
He's an excuse and it's just the new bit
So let's talk about what it is your saying I deserve
Then tell me how the dark inside is claiming me first
'Cause a broken heart is one thing brother, this what I've learned
Were all here on borrowed time and waiting our turn
The hole inside your story feels like a sentence
It's just the way it looks from your point of reference
I'm sitting right next to you ready to listen
Is that enough then? Well what's the difference?
Let's talk about what it is you're saying you deserve
I'll tell you how the dark inside is claiming you first
Cause a broken spirit's one thing but there's no time left to learn
We're all here on borrowed time and waiting our turn
So let's talk about how no one gets what they deserve
We'll spiral out, let the dark inside come claim who we were
'Cause I love you so and soon enough there's no choice but to learn
That we're all here on borrowed time and waiting our turn

Hi, I'm Erik and I am a songwriter from Howell NJ. I love my friends. I love being outside. I'm sad sometimes and these songs tend to reflect that headspace, but I'm so grateful to have the means to put them out into the world. Art is tight. Capitalism sucks. ... more
